Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening is George Markowsky. Educator, entrepreneur, innovator, and author, Professor Markowsky was the founding president of MESDA. After receiving his BA in mathematics from Columbia University and his MS and Ph.D in Mathematics from Harvard University, Professor Markowsky joined the Thomas J. Watson Research Center at IBM. He was the first chair of the Computer Science Department at the University of Maine, and also found several companies, including software company Trefoil Corp., research/commercialization complex Ayers Island LLC, and Maine Venture Capitol. George now is Chair of the Computer Science Department as well as Chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department.

Black tie is optional, and creative interpretations of the theme are encouraged.

MESDA Technology Awards showcase the progress and recognize the accomplishments and significant contributions of the Software and Information Technology Industry over the past year and present awards to Maine's top technology companies. This event allows MESDA the opportunity to highlight outstanding achievements and success stories from technology firms across the state.

MESDA enhances the software and information technology industry through programs designed to increase awareness of the industry, develop community, industry perception and workforce development. MESDA has been designated by the State of Maine to be the lead organization to oversee the state's strategy to cultivate the software development and information technology industry. Since 1992, MESDA has been an advocate and a resource base for Maine's software and IT industry. As an advocate, MESDA has succeeded in passing legislation to assist our industry. As a resource, MESDA supplies information, educational programs and services for our members. MESDA is dedicated to growing our industry by creating a constructive and stimulating environment.
